In a surprising turn of events, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will not be participating in Tuesday's matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a nagging right knee injury that has also kept him out of Golden State's last game.
The team has officially categorized this injury as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly referred to as "runner's knee." This condition generally leads to swelling and discomfort around the kneecap, making it challenging for athletes to perform at their best.
Curry first noticed discomfort during an individual training session in Minneapolis on January 24. After resting for one game against the Minnesota Timberwolves last Monday, he tried to push through the pain. Unfortunately, discomfort became too significant, forcing him to exit the game early during the Warriors' 131-124 defeat to the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.
In a concerning moment late in the third quarter, Curry grimaced after successfully making a floater and subsequently limped off to the locker room during the subsequent timeout. He was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game and was seen icing his knee postgame before leaving the arena with a visible limp.
Describing the issue as "super weird" and something he had never experienced before, Curry remains hopeful but is currently listed as day-to-day by the team. Head coach Steve Kerr has indicated that both Curry and Rick Celebrini, the Warriors' lead medical expert, will make decisions regarding his return and how to manage his health for the remainder of the season.
Additionally, the Warriors will be missing forward Jonathan Kuminga for a fifth straight game due to a bone bruise in his left knee. Although Kuminga returned to practice this past weekend and is nearing a comeback, he is also considered a potential trade candidate as the deadline approaches on Thursday afternoon, just hours before the team's next game against the Phoenix Suns.
